Where We’re Going
The Jaymo Foundation formed to help alleviate some of the pressures placed on the families of cancer patients. The emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis and treatment is already overwhelming. Our goal is to leverage our funds to help tackle some of the practical challenges families inevitably face during this journey. We see three broad areas where we can be most effective.
Childcare Assistance
Cancer treatment forces parents to juggle even more competing demands. The Jaymo Foundation’s work will be geared, in part, to ensuring that children have a nurturing and safe environment so as to allow parents to focus on healing.
Supplementing Treatment Costs
The cost of medical care can overwhelm families and force them into tough decisions. Part of the Jaymo Foundation’s mission is to help bridge financial gaps by connecting families with financial aid for essential medical treatments, prescriptions, and therapies.
Hospice Care Aid
As families approach the end of their cancer journey, we stand as a compassionate presence, offering assistance to ensure that the final moments are marked by comfort and dignity. The Jaymo Foundation aims to provide resources for hospice care financial relief, allowing families to focus on creating meaningful memories.
Where We Are
We have a big, long-term vision, but to accomplish it, the Jaymo Foundation will need to start small and stay consistent.
Initial fundraising efforts will focus on supporting our introductory phase. With the assistance of child life therapists, we will begin crafting care packages for the families of cancer patients. We view these packages, crafted mostly with the children of patients in mind, as the Jaymo Foundation extending our open hand. We will then connect with cancer centers across the east coast to find the right homes for these packages.
This stage helps us accomplish a few important initial steps. Above all, the care packages let families know there is an organization out there thinking of them. Although we hope the families who receive them will consider sharing their story with us, and letting us know the ways they need help, the packages require nothing from them. Our goal here is to grow a list of families we can stay in contact with, and learn about the ways in which the Jaymo Foundation can be most effective.
Over time, the packages will help us build momentum, and familiarity and trust with cancer centers, letting them know we are serious in our commitment to help families.
This first phase is about learning. As we continue fundraising, growing our network of cancer centers and connecting and staying in touch with the families of cancer patients, a clearer picture of our next phase will arise: putting money where the Jaymo Foundation’s board determines to be the most effective in alleviating the practical challenges of cancer for families.
Where We’ve Been
March 2024
The foundation earns 501c3 status. Now officially a non-profit organization, the team begins some grassroots fundraising to support its goal of building a broad network of cancer centers and patient advocates across the country.
Summer 2024
The team launches its inaugural fundraising events in Virginia and New Jersey. The money raised will help finance the foundation's first phase in creating its relief network: sending family care packages to cancer centers across the east coast.
November 2023
The Jaymo Foundation kicks off. Upon incorporation, the organization forms a board of directors and begins coordinating on its mission to fulfill Jaymo's wish: help relieve some of the practical burdens endured by the families of cancer patients.
